LIVESTOCK PRODUCTS TECHNOLOGY

About the Department

Department of Livestock Products Technology is comprehensively mandated to teaching and training Undergraduate veterinary students (as per VCI, MSVE-2016) w.r.t. varied aspects of livestock products including milk and meat products/by-products, making graduates competent enough to meet the needs of the dairy/meat industry and make it sustainable as an important component of livestock economics. In brief, the departmental activities aim at:

  • Imparting knowledge on various aspects of dairy science, viz., milk technology, enabling veterinary graduates to assist the poor farmer or animal owners in enhancing their income.
  • Training students in the elements of meat science viz. nutritive value of meat, muscle, meat microbiology, biochemistry, and meat technology, thus making them conversant with quality of meat, preservation, and product processing.
  • Utilization of Products and by-products of Livestock origin including basics of wool processing.
  • Motivating students to carry out future research and facilitate hands-on training.

 

Facilities available

  • Meat Technology Laboratory
  • Dairy Technology Laboratory
  • Slaughter house for 5 to 10 animals (sheep and goat) and 50 poultry birds.
