The Laboratory of Department of Animal Nutrition was set up in the year 2010. It is one of the promising departments of the college and focuses on studying the dietary needs of the animals and provides exceptional undergraduate instructions and guidelines. Animal nutrition laboratory (FEED FODDERS ANALYSIS AND ENERGY METABOLISM LABORATORY) is equipped with all the types of equipment as per VCI norms such as hot air oven, muffle furnace, Kjeldahl apparatus, Soxhlet apparatus, spectrophotometer, and flame photometer for undergraduate education. It also provides an opportunity for students to learn about haymaking, urea ammoniated straw preparation, area-specific mineral mixture mixing, etc. The information about scientific feeding practices and current technologies used in the feed industry is assessed through the frequent field and farm visits to broaden the spectra of learning. Area Specific Mineral Mixture for Punjab on small scale is prepared in the laboratory by the members of the departments and the final year students in the Entrepreneurial course.
Facilities Available
The department is full-fledged with human resources, infrastructure and laboratory facilities. The laboratory contains all the instruments, apparatus, glassware and chemicals required for practical classes of Second Professional B.V.Sc. & A.H students. Besides these, the laboratory also has the sophisticated instruments for research. The samples of various types of conventional as well as unconventional feed ingredients for livestock are available in the department practical room for demonstration purpose. The department also comprises a demonstration plot of fodder cultivation for the students.
