DEPARTMENT OF

Department of Veterinary Clinical Diagnostics

The Department of Veterinary Clinical Diagnostics (VCD) has been established to strengthen KCVAS’s institutional capacity for accurate, timely, and science‑driven disease diagnosis. With a focus on advancing the detection and monitoring of infectious, metabolic, parasitic, and production‑limiting diseases, the department serves as a central hub for diagnostic excellence, student training, and clinical decision support.

The department’s primary objective is to enhance diagnostic precision through modern laboratory technologies, including molecular assays, serological testing, rapid detection platforms, and advanced biochemical profiling. These tools enable early identification of pathogens, improved disease surveillance, and evidence‑based interventions that directly support veterinarians, farmers, and field practitioners.

Interdisciplinary Expertise Strengthening the Department

The VCD Department functions in close collaboration with several specialized disciplines across the College, each contributing essential expertise:

- Veterinary Microbiology — Supports bacterial, viral, and fungal pathogen detection through culture, molecular diagnostics, and antimicrobial sensitivity testing.
- Veterinary Pathology — Provides histopathology, cytology, and post‑mortem diagnostic insights crucial for understanding disease mechanisms and confirming clinical findings.
- Veterinary Parasitology — Offers diagnostic support for internal and external parasites through microscopy, fecal examinations, and vector‑borne disease detection.
- Veterinary Biochemistry — Conducts biochemical profiling, metabolic assessments, and organ‑function analyses that guide clinical interpretation and treatment planning.
- Veterinary Pharmacology & Toxicology — Contributes expertise in drug response, toxicity evaluation, and therapeutic decision‑making, ensuring safe and effective clinical management.

Together, these collaborating departments create a robust, multidisciplinary diagnostic ecosystem that enhances the accuracy, reliability, and scope of services offered by VCD.

Role in Training and Community Support

The department also plays a key role in training students in modern diagnostic techniques, ensuring they gain hands‑on experience with laboratory procedures, data interpretation, and clinical correlation. Through its integration with extension and outreach activities, VCD provides essential diagnostic support during disease outbreaks, natural disasters, and community health initiatives.

With its strong scientific foundation and collaborative framework, the Department of Veterinary Clinical Diagnostics is poised to become a cornerstone of KCVAS’s mission to advance veterinary science, safeguard animal health, and serve the farming community with excellence
