VETERINARY PARASITOLOGY

About the Department

The Department of Veterinary Parasitology has been established to provide training to undergraduate students in the broad field of veterinary parasitology as per the latest VCI syllabus. The department is dedicated to the teaching of B.V.Sc & A.H students in the classroom and laboratory about the different aspects of Parasitology subject. It provides knowledge in Veterinary Helminthology, Entomology & Acarology, and Protozoology. It also provides diagnostic services. The two laboratories of Helminthology and Entomology & Protozoology of the department have highly trained and motivated staff with all the essential equipment and chemicals as per MSVE 2016.

 

Facilities Available

Facilities are available as per the MSVE 2016 for undergraduate teaching.

  • Helminthology Laboratory
  • Entomology and Protozoology Laboratory
  • Diagnostic facilities:
  1. Examination of fecal materials for detection of ova/oocysts of helminth and protozoan parasites.
  2. Blood sample examination for the diagnosis of hemoprotozoan diseases
  3. Skin scraping examination for the diagnosis of endoparasites
  • Research activities:
  1. Collection of parasites, their identification, and preservation.
  2. Identification of parasites of stray dogs and cats nearby Amritsar.
  3. Prevalence of hemoprotozoans in ruminants in and around Amritsar.
  4. Visit to slaughterhouse for collection of infected organs for demonstration
