VETERINARY PATHOLOGY

About the Department

Undergraduate teaching as per the course curriculum of the Veterinary Council of India (MSVE-2016) in the discipline of Veterinary Pathology. The activities of the department are mainly aimed at achieving the following goals:

  • Teaching students about clinical signs of various diseases, their pathogenesis, gross and histopathological lesions, and their diagnosis with the help of postmortem examination and various clinical diagnostic tests.
  • To make students familiar with the prognostic aspects of various diseases affecting farm animals, pet animals, poultry, lab animals, aquatic species, and wild animals.
  • To teach Clinico-pathology of animal diseases and rule out the cause of disease through pathological and accessory techniques.
  • To build a databank and repository of various pathological specimens, paraffin blocks, and slides for continued analysis, review, and clinical studies.

    Facilities are available as per MSVE 2018 guidelines for undergraduate teaching. The Department of Veterinary Pathology (VPP) aims at strengthening disease diagnosis and prognosis through the use of these facilities. The Department works in close association with Veterinary Clinical Complex (VCC) and has a well-equipped diagnostic lab in the hospital that not only teaches clinical pathology to students but also provides diagnostic help to the clinicians and interns.

  • Maintenance and Upkeep of the college Aquarium
  • Faculty provides on-field necropsy in Amritsar vicinity on request by the farmers as and when required.
  • HOD visited as an external examiner for PG students in different colleges of India.
  • Participation in National Webinar on Scope of New Age Technologies in Indian Dairy Farming by Dr. Nischal Dutta
  • 21 days online training-cum-orientation program on Advances in Clinico-pathological Diagnosis of Farm Animals Diseases: A Radical Approach in Doubling Farmers Income attended by Dr. Nishchal Dutta and Dr. Sankalp Sharma (VLD lab).
  • A keynote lecture presented by HOD (Dr. Shagufta Azmi) as a guest speaker in the ICAR-sponsored 21 days online training program.
  • Seven day International web course on Preclinical studies in biomedical research and regenerative medicine  was attended by Dr. Nishchal Dutta.
